[FIDL3] Forza Individual Drivers League 3 Rules
2K9/2KX SEASON - Season Begins Tuesday, Dec. 29th 2009

Rules copied from original forums posting and can be read/responed to OVER HERE

FIDL3 League Schedule

The Racing League will consist of 8 events spanning the next three months and change.

Matches will be scheduled at the beginning of the season, after the signup period ends. There are no rain-outs or make up dates for races.

Only the best 5 finishes will count towards your point total.
This is done to accommodate everybody's tight schedule.
If you can't make every event, it doesn't necessarily hurt your score.

Racers can join at any time before the 4th event is run.

Race Matches will be scheduled out for the entire season in advance.

Each week a new thread will be created to confirm the attendees for that session.
This will help arrange the rooms. (see next section)

TUESDAY NIGHTS will be the league Racing night (as voted on by the drivers).

In a sincere effort to accommodate all time zones, there will be races scheduled at 10:00 PM Eastern and 12:00 AM (midnight)Eastern.
This will serve to help both time zones get into the races.
Depending on the amount of drivers signed up, we could run 1 session at 10:00 and 2 at 12:00 or 3 at 10:00 and none at 12:00.
It all depends on YOUR schedule and the amount of people racing that night.
This has the potential to change every week.
We will do or best to get everyone into a room each session.

For matches with greater than 8 participants (hopefully everyone shows up), we will randomize all league drivers and direct the participants to a specific room 5 min before race time.
Some people may be shifted from one room to the other at the discretion of the race organizer (psybertech) and room host (TBD).
There will never be less than 4 drivers in a room.
Races will not be run with 3 or less drivers in a room.

In the event we cannot fill a room with greater than 3 drivers, those drivers will have the option to attend the later session (if available).
This situation should not arise often with the flexibility of splitting rooms and an additional time slot.

Please try to get online as early as possible.

MATCH COMPOSITION

Matches will vary week by week.
The goal of each series is to run the total events in approximately one hour.
Example: in three event series, the laps in each event will try to be approximately 15-20 minutes in duration based upon an average time for that track.
Example: in five event series, the laps in each event will try to be approximately 10 minutes in duration based upon an average time for that track.
When I set the series up for a given week, the average time will be determined by me based upon the leaderboards time plus an appropriate padding.
i.e. approximately +5 seconds for short or +10 seconds for longer tracks and +XX for extremely long, complicated tracks like the Ring or Fujimi, etc.

A ten minute grace period for the first race only is allowed. If a driver has said that he/she will participate, we'll give them the 10 minutes.
Please remember that being late holds up a lot of people.

For multi-race events, late arriving drivers can participate in the 2nd race if they missed the first one.
This will impact your overall standing for that event, but some points are better than no points.

Leaving the room between races to re-tune cars is not permitted under normal circumstances.
Too much time is spent with that kind of activity. Please have your cars and tunings ready before the race or just race 'em as they stand.

TRACKS AND CLASSES

Several different tracks will be used (sorry, no ovals, point to point or drag)
The tracks will be chosen to optimize the racing conditions, allow for passing, etc.

Tracks and Classes will be posted for ALL weeks at the start of the start of the league season.

  Races may vary in length.
Sometimes, a race will consist of a sufficient number of laps to force at least one pit stop.

Classes for this league will range by week to include A, B, C and D classes.
You don't have to max out the PI in each class, but it is recommended.

XBOX LIVE CONNECTIVITY ISSUES

Unfortunately form time to time, a driver or drivers might get bumped out of the race due to XBOX Live or their internet provider. ●  In the event a driver gets kicked a restart may be an option if:
The race is less than 1/3 of the way complete by the lead driver.
EXAMPLE: In a 10 lap race, if the lead driver is on lap 3 or less, then a restart can occur.
If the lead driver starts lap 4, then a restart will not occur.
In a 15 lap race, if the lead driver is on lap 5 or less, then a restart can occur.
If the lead driver starts lap 6, then a restart will not occur.
During a restart the drivers WILL NOT TAKE OFF AFTER THE START.
Instead, all drivers need to get back into the position they were in at the time of the restart/dropped player.
Once all drivers are in line in the correct order and on the next long straight on the track, the LAST driver will count down from to being the race at that point.
The LAST driver will do this since he/she can see that everyone is on the straight and not in a corner so the start should be clean.
If any problems occur during the restart, another restart may occur to get this right.
In the event the track is too short to hold all drivers on a straight, then the drivers should find the longest section of track and line up on a grid in the order they shold be as if the game positioned you that way from the start.
Once in position, the LAST driver will count 3 and the event will begin.
Work togehter on this since it is not perfect.

CARS

Any car in a driver’s garage may be used as long as the class is not higher than the scheduled race class.
Unless otherwise specified in the schedule, the cars below will be excluded from use in the league due to superior, above class performance that will either
          a) form a competitive imbalance or
          b) force everybody to use the same car in order to be competitive.

You are permitted to use as many cars in the class that you wish.
You can use one car per race or per event or whatever you want.
If you choise to use the same car but with different tune settings, you can change them in the lobby.
If you are using a LOCKED setup as a choice, you may or may not be permitted to leave the lobby to apply the settings (see MATCH COMPOSITION items above).
It would be best for you to use your own tunes so you can apply them at will from inside the lobby.

Currently, this is the banned car list:
       Audi S4
       Audi S5
       1992 VW GTI MK2

There may be a special event which uses one or more of the above cars.
The schedule will detail all such variations.

You may race a car in a class lower than the event calls for if you wish.

Alternatively, unmodified cars meeting the class restriction may also be used.

No hacked profiles or Xbox’s may be used.

Any paint scheme can be used.

PLEASE CHOOSE A LIVERY NUMBER FOR THE LEAGUE!
Please pick a number (I will update the signups to reflect numbers taken) and place that number on the cars you will be racing.
Placement should be 1 on the rear bumper and 1 on each side
This will help us to call out who we are coming up on for passing or warning purposes until we can remember every driver and their cars.
Nothing fancy required, just a simple, VISIBLE number.

OPTIONS AND ASSISTS

Damage will be set to “Simulation” to encourage clean driving (see rules below).

Tire and Fuel Wear will be on.

Collisions will be set to SIMULATION.

Any assists including ABS, TCS, STM, driving line, and automatic transmission ARE acceptable. Autobraking is NOT acceptable and will be disabled in the lobby.
       Each to his/her own tastes.

RACING RULES

*** In an individual league, everybody is an opponent so passes are more hotly contested, etc. Thus, the rules below are VERY important.

To make this league work, people will need to attempt to race cleanly.
Accidents will happen but it is the duty of the drivers to avoid strong contact with other cars.
Touching side to side is not a bad thing but suture-weaving to knock a car off line is a bad thing.
Braking early because that’s the way you take turns is not a bad thing, doing it while right in front of a competitor to ruin his front end on the first lap IS a bad thing. The hard part will come when people take different racing lines and then get into each other. Just remember, it’s a fairly long season with many races. It is almost inevitable that you will be spun out a few times and that you will spin somebody else out too. It’s a competitive league but it HAS to remain friendly and fair or it will simply not work. Major racing leagues are competitive and are for money, job, and more money. The same temptations strike ‘real’ race drivers. They just realize that for the good of their sport (and in their case, lives and livelihoods), they have to drive with respect for the rules and for the other competitors.

All drivers are expected to avoid wrecks at all times.

Deliberately wrecking the opposition or consistently flying into turns too fast and wrecking the cars ahead of you is against the rules.
While this is a judgment call, a pattern of wrecks near the front of the field will result in a review by an impartial group of drivers in the league and the offending driver can be banned from league races.
This means that you don’t have to be cheating to cause a problem; it can happen because of an inability to control your car.
This doesn’t mean a banned driver is a bad person or a cheater, it is just necessary to make the league work.

If you are lap traffic, then it is your obligation to move to the outside of the track (section dependent) and allow lead lap cars to pass .

Blocking will follow a simple set of rules.
Riding the inside line of a turn is legitimate to block a slower car.
On straight-aways, one move to block is acceptable.
Weaving down the straight to form a barrier to cars behind is not.

XBL has microphones for a reason.
When approaching a slower car on a straightaway and passing at a far greater speed, tell them on which side you are coming. They may as well move over, because anything more than a single blocking move is against the rules and even that can be a violation.
In turns, a lead lap car is free to ride on the inside of the track to make passing difficult. If you’re lead-lap, this is acceptable and expected.

SCORING RULES

Each Room will have a designated scorer who just has to record the finishing order (everybody should try to do that as a fail safe).

All drivers receive points, including DNFs as detailed below.

The scorer will post the race results for their room in that week's event's Forum Post.

The weekly point totals will be entered into a database created and run by psybertech in order to track the league.

DNF drivers are ranked in the exit screen based on their position on the track when the 60 second time limit elapses.

Every driver should note their finishing position at the end of the race.
We'd like to avoid any questions on this. Each position counts so we need to get the points right.

We will be using the point system built in to Forza Motorsport 3 to gauge each room's event standings.

At the end of the series the in game points will be converted to a standard system.
This system is in place since the number or events each week will vary so nights with 5 races would obviously weigh more than with 3 events.

     1st - 10
     2nd - 8
     3rd - 6
     4th - 5
     5th - 4
     6th - 3
     7th - 2
     8th - 1
     DNF - 1

In the event of a tie, that position's points will be awarded to the tied drivers.
EXAMPLE: If we have a tie for second, first place receives 10, the two tied drivers will receive 8 points each, third place (which is actually fourth) will receive 5 and fifth place will receive 4, etc., etc.

To assist with rules and scoring, PLEASE SAVE YOUR REPLAYS!
In the event a question arises about the finishing order, point totals or the race in general, having the replay saved and uploaded to FM.net will help resolve any issues we have.
You do not have to upload it unless a request is made.
The more people remembering to save replays will ensure that at least one replay from the event is preserved.

PRACTICE AND TIME ATTACKS

Feel free to open rooms and practice the upcoming events as you wish.
There will be no official practice.

Depending on the turnout and availability of everyone, we might be able to host practice runs before the series begins, but do not count on it.

Time Attacks are not mandatory. Time Attacks are for fun and information only.
The point of this first and foremost is FUN.
Run your laps and post your times.
You can use this as a way to track your best cars for a given track.
You can use this to see what other people are running or to help add or eliminate a possible car to your stable.

Time Attacks will be tracked at myForzaGarage
The tracking will be done by you. I will provide information on how to add your times to the database.
Please keep it honest!!!! There is no need to exaggerate a time.
Please try to post only verified times unless you haven't yet posted a clean time in a given car on that track.
Anything hosted at myForzaGarage.com is free and hosted by me, psybertech.
I am using MFG only because I can create exactly what we need to track the league independent of GG or any other web site.
WE have total control of the site.

ONE FINAL NOTE

These rules are being set in place to help ensure a fun and competitive atmosphere for all. Remember, our goal as geezers is to play hard but to have FUN. Competitors posting write-ups of their matches in the forums is most definitely encouraged!

If you have a beef with someone or something that went on during a match, please respect your fellow racers by bringing it to the attention of the racer privately. If you think there is a serious breech of the rules that affected the outcome of the race, then contact the league coordinator (psybertech) and I'll look into it immediately.

If you have the ability to capture video of your matches, that can be both entertaining to go back and watch and helpful in the event we need to go back and review a game. Replays are also a good source as well as the in game movie features (although tedious and time consuming, we know).

I sincerely hope you enjoy the league! If you have thoughts on how to improve the experience for everyone, please let me know. This was designed with the whole community in mind and with your help we can keep our racing fun and competitive for many seasons to come!
